It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Young Hee Koo on April 30, 2026. Young Hee was an embodiment of spirited resilience, generosity, and dedicated love. Born in Seoul, South Korea, on October 14, 1946, to Jae Oak Kim and Jae Soon Sim, Young lived a majority of her life in Los Angeles, California, and later made her home in Bremerton, Washington, where she lived for two years.
Young was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a treasured sister. Young Hee enjoyed flowers, knitting, crocheting, and traveling (Germany holding a special place in her heart.) Her professional life was spent in the demanding field of customer service, where she worked in floral and Postal Services until her retirement. But it was her role as matriarch of the family that truly defined Young Hee. The well-being of her sons and grandchildren was her life's mission, and she fulfilled it with honor, respect, and an unwavering spirit. Her love language was acts of service and gifts, and there was nothing more important to her than ensuring the happiness and success of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Phil (Esther) Koo and Joung (Carol) Koo; her adored grandchildren, Priscilla, Judah, Daniel, Ethan, and Allison; and her loving siblings, Choung Han Kim, Young Kim and Jung (Keum) Kim. She was predeceased by her parents, Jae Kim and Jae Sim. Her spirit lives on in the love and memories she leaves behind, a testament to a life well-lived and a woman well-loved.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 2:00pm PDT at The Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary, 22272 Foss Road Northeast, Poulsbo, Washington, 98370. We invite all those who knew and loved Young to join us in celebrating her remarkable life.
In honor of Young, we encourage all who knew her to share their memories, stories and photos on her memorial page as a testament to her life's impact. Each memory shared will help to keep her spirit alive and provide comfort to those who loved her.
