Sophia Eva Peterson Obituary (1928

Sophia Eva Peterson passed away on September 23, 2013 at the age of 85. She was born on July 23, 1928 in Washington to Howard and Ester Schaffert. Sophia lived most of her life in the Silverdale area. As a young girl she spent a lot of time with grandparents, Columbus and Sophie St Clair on their homestead in Silverdale. Columbus was one of the first settlers in the Silverdale area in the 1880's. Sophia married Donald S. Peterson on November 6, 1949 in Lynden, Washington. They settled in Silverdale and raised 3 children. Sophia was a master gardener and always entered her vegetables and fruits in the Kitsap County Fair where she won many awards and ribbons for her exhibits. She was an active member of the Clear Creek Grange and served on the board for the Silverdale Cemetery Association, Sophia was very proud that her grandfather Columbus started the cemetery in 1894 and later sold it to the Silverdale Cemetery Association. Sophia is survived by her daughter, Sophia Ann Apomayta (Ernesto); sons, Kenneth Peterson (Ruth), Marty Peterson (Laura); 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Don; brother, Homer Sr.; grandson, James Carr. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 1:00PM at Silverdale Cemetery.
