Richard William Thatcher Obituary (1923

Richard William Thatcher, age 79, died Thursday, August 1, 2002 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, WA. Richard was born July 9, 1923 in Shaw, Oregon to Pearly ''Pat'' Granville and Edith Ruth (Getting) Thatcher. Richard grew up in Salem, Oregon and attended school there. He enlisted in the USMC on December 29, 1941 and participated in the invasions of Guadalcanal, New Georgia, the Solomon Islands, Okinawa and the Philippine Islands. Richard married Margaret May Allen on November 10, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. They settled in the Northwest and he worked for Boeing for 32 years, retiring in 1982. After Margaret's death in 1986, Richard settled in Poulsbo, WA. He was an accomplished furniture maker and loved to fish. His sister, Gwelda Hunt, preceded him in death. A son, Patrick A. Thatcher and his wife Ellen of Renton, WA; 2 grandchildren, Karilee L. Hayden and her husband Brian of Pensacola, FL and Kyle S. Thatcher of Renton, WA; and 3 great-grandchildren, Caleb D. Hayden, Sophia K. Hayden and Ethan Hayden, all of Pensalcola, FL survive him. The family suggests that those desiring to remember Richard through memorial gifts make them in his name to a charity of their choice.
