Captain Raymond G. Thurston, Jr. of Silverdale, Washington passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's on May 1, 2003 at Harbor House at Liberty Shores in Poulsbo, Washington. He was 84 years of age. He was born on February 25, 1919 in Seattle, Washington to Raymond G., Sr. and Margarite L. (Guglielmo) Thurston. He attended and graduated from high school in Anacortes, Washington. He married Barbara L. Wilhelm on June 10, 1944. At the time of his passing, he was retired from the Master Mates and Pilots and partnership in MA Stream, both of Seattle. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara L. (Wilhelm) Thurston of Silverdale; son Greg Thurston of Seattle; daughter-in-law Patricia Thurston; brother Stanley Thurston of Puyallup, Washington; sisters Florence Palmer of Palmer, Alaska, Margaret Murphy of Everett, Washington, and Bonnie Gilbert of Bellingham, Washington; granddaughters Leah Hendrickson, Margeaux Bruce of Belfair, Washington, and Nicole Thurston Curry of Tahuya, Washington; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His beloved son, Grant Thurston, formerly of Tahuya, precedes him in death. Mr. Thurston's family would like to acknowledge the loving care he received from his "family" at Harbor House at Liberty Shores in Poulsbo. Remembrances may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, 12721 30th Avenue Northeast, Suite 101, Seattle, Washington, 98125. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
