Obituary for Paul Pazooki

Paul Pazooki, age 78 of Bremerton, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2018 at Harrison Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born on March 10, 1940 to Issa and Moneereh Pazooki in Tehran, Iran. After graduating at the top of his high school class, he moved to the United States to continue his education in 1959. He attended language school in Oklahoma before transferring to Washington State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1965.

Paul continued to be a die-hard Cougar because WSU was where he met the love of his life, Andrea Jensen. Paul and Andie were married September 3, 1966. The young couple first lived in Tacoma where they began raising their three children. They moved to Bremerton in 1980 where they lived out their life together.

In the early 1970s, Paul saw an opportunity in a small one-road town in central Kitsap County. He left his job in Tacoma and opened his own engineering firm with his partner Dennis McMenamin. The legacy of that partnership (now MAP, Ltd.) can be seen in what Silverdale has become today. Instead of retiring, Paul transitioned ownership of the firm to the young engineers he had hired, and continued as an independent land developer, with projects and partners throughout the state. He also served on the board of directors of both Kitsap Paratransit and Pacific Northwest Title.

As a naturalized citizen, civic and community involvement were especially important to Paul. He personally knew the people at all levels of government who represented him, and he gave his support based on what a person could do for the community rather than what their political affiliation might be. Over the years, he served in leadership roles in several organizations including Silverdale Chamber of Commerce, Home Builders Associations, Kitsap Economic Development Alliance, and Kitsap Immigration Assistance Center. Paul was also an active member in Rotary International.

Paul was the driving force behind Bremerton Rotary’s AVID Mentor partnership at Bremerton High School.  He recruited dozens of Rotarians, business people and friends to join in the effort to help students working to become the first generation in their families to attend college.  Paul used his connections and enthusiasm to find and provide laptop computers to AVID students, and started a foundation for monetary support.  Paul’s strong belief in education, formed through his own experiences as a young adult, was felt by hundreds of Bremerton AVID students.

Family was more important to Paul than anything else. He retained a lifelong bond with his children who continued to be closely connected to him as adults. He also supported numerous extended family members who knew that “Uncle Paul” was always there for them. Paul had a way of connecting with people, and his countless friends knew him as an honest, loyal person who they could always count on for advice and support.

Paul is survived by Andie, his wife of 51 years; sons Darius (Meagin) and Reza; daughter Paula; brother Alireza; sisters Fatemeh, Faezeh, Massoomeh, and Sedeeqeh; as well as other close family, too numerous to name, all around the world.

Paul will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on April 15, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club. All those who wish to remember Paul are invited to attend.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to the Bremerton Rotary Foundation - AVID fund in Paul’s name at P.O. Box 242, Bremerton, WA 98337 or online at
