Mary Catherine ''Cathy'' DeRocher, age 71, of Bainbridge Island, WA, passed away late Wednesday, May 1, 2002. Cathy was born December 27, 1930 in Portland, Oregon to Thomas and Catherine (Flynn) Higgins. She was raised and educated in the Portland area having graduated from Immaculata High School. Cathy went on to receive her B.A.ed and M.ed from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.Over the years she was employed with the South Kitsap School District and East Port Orchard Elementary School and eventually retired in 1994. Prior to getting married Cathy was an airline stewardess for United Airlines. On April 16, 1955, Cathy married Ernest DeRocher in Des Moines, WA. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. Cathy is survived by her children; E. Jay DeRocher and his wife Amy of Bothell, WA, Denise K. DeRocher and her husband John Regan of Melbourne, FL, Jean M. Walker and her husband Steve of Vancouver, WA and Jim E. DeRocher of Seattle, WA, one brother; James Higgins and his wife Peggy of Seattle, WA and two grandchildren. Cathy's family suggests that memorial's may be made in her name to either the American Heart Association at 4414 Woodland Park Ave W, Seattle, WA 98103.7499 or the Parkinson's Disease Association at 1959 NE Pacific St., Division of Neurology, R6-27, Seattle, WA 98195. A Memorial service will be held, Tuesday, May 7, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 5th and Veneta, Bremerton, WA 98337
