Marti A. Lewis Obituary (1944

Marcia "Marti" A. Lewis, 65, of Bremerton, WA passed away on May 2nd in Bremerton. Marti was born to Lyle H. and Leona E. (Novak) Chermak on February 17, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Marti served in the US Navy for three years as a nurse and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. On June 25, 1972, Marti married Lester M. Lewis, Jr in Bremerton. Marti received her Doctorate in Education from Seattle University in 1988 to add to being a Registered Nurse and Certified Medical Assistant. She worked for 33 years at Olympic College as a Nursing Educator. Marti was also Dean of Math, Engineering, Sciences and Health at Olympic College for 15 years. Marti was a member of the several organizations, including, but not limited to the American Nurses Association, WA State Nurse Association, Kitsap County Nurses Association, American Association of Medical Assistants, Captain Sue Dauser Orthopedic Guild, Bremerton Sports Car Club, Lady Elk's 1181, Kitsap Golf & Country Club and was past president and board member of Kitsap Mental Health. Marti was also a writer and published two books titled "Medical Law, Ethics and Bioethics" and "Diseases of the Human Body". She also wrote several editions to these books with her co-author Dr. Carol D. Tamparo. Marti is survived by her husband Lester M. Lewis, Jr. of Bremerton; daughter, Martiann Lewis of Bremerton; brother, Howard L. Chermak (Judy) of Edmonds, WA; and her niece, Dana Marie Chermak of Edmonds, WA. Public visitation will be held May 7th and 8th from 10am-5pm at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 10:30am at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Private interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Wells Fargo Bank (ACCT 6274607313) in the name of "Marcia A. Lewis" for a future endowment for nursing and medical assistant students at Olympic College. Lester and Martiann would like to thank all of you who contributed to Marti's endowment since her passing.
