Marta Grace-Cutting Johnson Obituary (1932

Marta G.C. Johnson passed away peacefully on December 28, 2013. She was born October 5, 1932 to John and Dorothy Laughlin in Seattle Washington. Her family moved to Kitsap County when she was a child and she lived in Bremerton for most of her life. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1951 and attended Olympic College. Marta danced for 12 years under Ivan Novikoff and Margaret Taping and performed twice at the Seattle Metropolitan Theatre. She was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles and VFW and bowled in several women's leagues in the area Marta was a well know presser in the Bremerton area, she worked several years at Park Avenue Cleaners in Bremerton and most recently at Fabricare Cleaners in Bremerton until she was diagnosed with esophageal cancer forcing her to retire at age 78. Always a fighter Marta beat cancer and was very proud to participate in South Kitsap Relay for Life as a cancer survivor in 2011. Marta had many very dear and close friends. She took many trips with her dearest friend Vivian, traveling together to Europe, Hawaii and most recently to Las Vegas. She loved to take road trips to Sequim in her convertible to visit her friend Lee or to Port Angeles where she visited her childhood friend Louise. She never forgot your birthday and sometimes would just pop in with a gift to put a smile on someone's face. Marta loved flowers, she enjoyed visits to nurseries to look for the "one" flower she didn't have yet. Most of all she loved her family unconditionally. Always there if you needed her, and always proud of each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent the latter years of her life with her former husband and companion Robert Johnson until his passing and the most recent few months living with her daughter Wendy. Marta will always be remembered as being a strong woman with a fiery attitude and a kindness to others, she was one of a kind, and will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by Robert Johnson and her son Thor Johnson. She is survived by her son Michael Brown of Bremerton, son Jeff (Barbara) King of North Carolina, Wendy Crenshaw (Curt) of Port Orchard, Sister Dorothy (Charles) Morris of Everett, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held where she will be laid to rest with her beloved son Thor at Ivy Green Memorial Cemetery in Bremerton. A celebration of life will be held at the Bremerton Eagles on January 25, 2013 at 1pm. Contact family for details.
