Laura Spencer (Stone) White, 67, passed away on April 27, 2026, at her home in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Laura was born on November 25, 1958, at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, to Fred and Marilyn Stone. As part of an Air Force family, Laura’s childhood was filled with travel and adventure. She lived in England, France, and Japan, as well as several states across the United States. These experiences helped shape her vibrant spirit, curiosity, and love for life.
Laura attended Eastern New Mexico University, where she studied education and human development. In 1979, she married her high school sweetheart, Greg White. Together, they built a life and raised two children, Lindsay Noelle White and Colton John White. Their family lived in several places over the years, including Farmington, New Mexico; Parachute, Colorado; El Paso, Texas; and Silverdale, Washington.
Laura had a gift for loving children and spent part of her life as a first grade teacher, where she cared deeply for her students. She was also wonderfully creative and entrepreneurial. In the 1990s, she created her own business, Lolly Tops, designing and decorating clothing herself. Her home was often filled with glitter, color, fashionable clothes, and the joyful evidence of her creativity. Laura had confidence and style, and she always made an effort to look her best, no matter how she may have felt.
At age 33, Laura was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Though she was not given much time to live, she persevered with remarkable strength and far surpassed every expectation. She lived her life with courage, humor, faith, and as much joy as she could possibly hold. Using her creativity, she wrote a children’s book about juvenile (Type 1) diabetes called Sugar Baby.
After retirement, Laura worked for CHI Franciscan Hospital as a scheduler and also volunteered part time helping older women with mammograms. She had a heart for serving others and a tenderness for people who needed care.
Laura’s greatest joys were her grandchildren, Clover and River, whom she lovingly called “the babies.” They were her pride and joy.
Most of all, Laura loved the Lord. Her faith in Jesus was steady and unwavering. Psalm 23 was a cherished prayer for her, and she knew the Lord as her Shepherd, trusting Him to lead her, provide for her, and care for her through every season. She lived with the spirit of Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Laura would want those who loved her to celebrate her life. She was funny, silly, stylish, strong, and full of heart. When her children were growing up, she often practiced “laugh therapy” and silly routines to help everyone feel better. She loved to say “cute as can be” and “be sweet,” words that so perfectly captured the warmth and kindness she shared with the people around her.
Laura also had many cherished friends. These were women she prayed with, laughed with, and loved deeply. They cared for one another like family, and their friendship was one of the great blessings of her life.
Laura is survived by her children, Lindsay Noelle White and Colton John White; her grandchildren, Clover and River White; and her sisters, Linda Spencer (Stone) Harlan (Mark) and Beth Spencer (Stone) Carpenter (Chris), as well as a niece and two nephews. She is also survived by her former husband, Greg White.
Laura’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith, perseverance, creativity, humor, and love. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated by all who knew her.
