Joyce M. (Sands) Reid Obituary (1924

Joyce M. (Sands) Reid, 90, of Bremerton, Wash., returned to her heavenly home on March 7, 2015. She was born August 17, 1924, in Seattle, to Joseph J. Sands and Grace T. (Long) Sands. Joyce and her family soon moved into the then-farm country of Bangor, where she cherished memories of growing up among Finnish immigrants. Joyce attended Bremerton High School and later the University of Washington. She met the love of her life, James F. Reid, while she was working as a secretary in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. They married on June 1, 1946 and remained devoted to each other for 66 years until his passing in 2012. Joyce is survived by a son, Joseph Reid and daughter-in-law, Judy Reid, of Gig Harbor; daughter Cynthia (Reid) Davis and son-in-law John Davis, of Bremerton; and daughter Cathy (Reid) Walde, of Clallam Bay; another daughter, Rebecca, died in infancy. She had ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was a devoted Christian and raised her children to love the Lord. She enjoyed gardening, reading, her friends and family, camping and traveling - visiting Mexico; Great Britain; the East Coast; Hawaii; and most of the West. Her home on Sunnyhill Road was always a warm and happy place where her favorite rhododendrons bloomed in spring, and friends and family loved to gather. We all remember the taste of fresh raspberries from her garden, good books to read from her collection and singing, looking at slides or telling family stories. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We love her and she will live forever in our hearts. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 13 at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent.
