Gracia M. Schapsmeier Obituary (1915

Gracia M. Schapsmeier died November 7, 2007 at Claremont East Retirement Apartments in Bremerton, WA. She was born on May 29, 1915 in Bremerton to Ralph and Abbie Elliott. She married Herman Schapsmeier in 1941 and moved to San Diego, CA where they resided until 1982. They returned to Bremerton at that time and resided here until the present. Herman and Gracia met while taking pictures of "Galloping Gertie" the Tacoma Bridge break up. Gracia loved reading, travel, gardening and music. Most of all she loved her Lord and Saviour Jesus. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. Gracia was preceded in death by her husband Herman; sisters, Hattie Engstrom and Mamie Henderson; niece Doretta Kellogg and her parents. Surviving are her brother, Elmer and sister-in-law, Betty Elliott, two nephews and five nieces. Herman and Gracia had no children. They helped other families by giving scholarships to young people at Peace Lutheran Christian School. Herman worked with the Boy Scouts and young people in the church in San Diego. Gracia's family wish to thank those who work at Claremont East for the love and compassion they have shown to Gracia for the past four years. Interment will be in Snohomish, WA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
