Gettie Raymond Paulus Obituary (1918

Ray went to join his beloved Jane on March 8, 2018 after 99 years on this earth. He was the first of five born to Gettie and Ella Paulus at Calumet, OK. His dad was a hard rock miner who liked to move so Ray attended grade school in Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington. The family finally settled in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where he completed high school and later attended Washington State College on the GI Bill. Early work comprised of being a crew leader in the US Forest Service White Pine Blister Rust camps, then later in the Civilian Conservation Corps where he became a leader and project assistant. He went to Alaska in 1940 to work in construction in the building of the U.S. Naval Air Station at Sitka and ultimately became the deputy timekeeping director. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and following service in WWII and Korea was honorably discharged as a Chief Aviation Electronics Technician. On March 10, 1945 he married the love of his life Jane Vaiciunas at the Church of Precious Blood in Los Angeles California. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary at one of their favorite winter spots, Yuma, Arizona. She passed away December 26, 2008. He has 35 years of federal service working at U.S. Naval Training Center, Farragut, Idaho, Naval Supply Depot, Spokane, Washington, completing his career at the Naval Supply Center Puget Sound. During his working years, he received numerous commendations as well as serving as an officer on the Seattle Federal Executive Board. He later worked as a consultant at the Naval Sub Base, Bangor assisting in the development of the logistics management system for the Trident Submarines. His 2 children, Linda and Keith, while young were active in numerous sports. Ray assisted those endeavors by volunteering many hours supporting the related youth organizations. The whole family liked to ski, he for 40 years covering most of the major ski areas in the west as well as 2 trips to the Swiss Mountains. He was also fond of golf, playing many years at Gold Mountain, making the first hole in one there on the Cascade course in 1971 for which he won a free year of green fees. Retirement year's were spent trailering throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada in an Airstream trailer. Great fishing in his 12 foot Livingston boat was enjoyed during the 9 winters spent on the East Cape on the Baja Mexico Peninsula 40 kilometers north of San Jose del Cabo. He was a member of NARFE, BPOE#1181, 70+ Ski Club, and the Wally Byam Caravan Club. He is survived by his daughter Linda (Dan) Muhoberac, son Keith (Patti), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road, Bremerton, WA on May 11, 2018 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. Inurnment at the Mt.
