Eugen Karl Holmstrand Obituary (1927

EUGEN KARL HOLMSTRAND Eugen Karl Holmstrand, 74, of Hansville, Washington died May 6, 2002 at his home. He was born in 1927 in San Rafael, California to Victor and Karin (Hultgren) Holmstrand. A first generation American, he grew up on the family chicken farm helping with all aspects of the ranch's operation. After he graduated from Tamalpais High School, he attended the College of Marin and Heald Business College. He spent over 30 years in the construction industry in California, building innovative homes in the Lake Tahoe region. He also provided quality control of earth movements on the construction of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) System. In addition, he coordinated efforts to provide fresh Alaska seafood by direct air shipment. He moved permanently to Alaska in 1973 in search of adventure. He commercial fished in the Southeast Alaska for halibut, salmon and king crab on his boats the ''SABRE'' and the ''REWARD'', and was the owner of the EKHO Marine Distributors until his retirement in 1993. In 1994 he and his wife, Suzanne Perry, moved to Hansville, Washington from Juneau, Alaska. He enjoyed remodeling their home, creating many unique features. He was active in the Suquamish Commuity Congregational Church of Christ(SUCC). He enjoyed dancing, woodworking, Bonsais, photography and traveling. Survivors include his brother, Robert, of lake Havasu City, Arizona; his wife, two sons, Mark, of Anchorage, Alaska, Craig, of San Rafael, California. A daughter, Lisa Cordaro, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and five grandchildren.
