Donald ''Don'' Mack Lyle Kinder Obituary (1919

Donald Mack Lyle Kinder, 83, died June 9, 2002 at Evergreen Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Bremerton on June 22, 1919 to Letia Munn Lyle and Mack Lyle. His parents divorced shortly after his birth. His mother married Charles Alfred Kinder (Al) in 1921 and he raised Don as his son and gave him his name. Don attended Smith School, Lincoln Jr. High and graduated from Bremerton High in 1937. He played guard on the championship football teams of Bremerton High in 1936 and 1937. He attended the University of Washington one year and played football on the freshman team. Then he entered the apprentice program for electricians in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, graduating in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy. The Navy entered him in the then new field of electronics, sending him to various schools including Texas A&M. He then served on the USS Dayton until the end of the Second World War. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where he worked in the electronics shop until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the VFW Post 239 and the American Legion Post 149. The love of his life was football, and he enjoyed all the games on TV and always rooted for Bremerton High and the University of Washington. For a time, in the 1940s he played for the Bremerton Semi Pro team, The Destroyers. Also in the 1940s he acted as a sports editor for the Bremerton Sun for a short period of time. He was a true Patriot and loved his country andwas proud of his Naval Service. He is survived by his sister Letia Kinder Heenan, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and her children, Jim Brandmeir (Anna), Karen Heenan Rankin, John C. Heenan, Pat Heenan Shields (Nard), Pegi Heenan Mahler and Michael Heenan (Marilyn)and by his sister, Eveline Kinder Ledford and her husband Rafe, children; Kathy Baldwin Marshall (Terry), Janie Baldwin Baker (Les), Stephen Baldwin (Dolores), Selinda Ledford Dressen (Dan) and Jonathan Ledford, plus all the grand nieces and nephews. At Don's request, the family will hold private graveside services with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. It is Don's wish that his friends at the VFW and the American Legion would give him a salute as he passed from this life into Eternity with God.
