Desi Ricardo Avery, Sr. Obituary (1954

Desi Ricardo Avery, Sr., 51, of Everett, WA died on Friday, July 15, 2006 in a car accident near Anaconda, MT. He was born to Warren and Verna (Walker) Avery on Dec. 26, 1954 in Battleboro, NC. He graduated from Edgecomb Tech. H. S. in Rocky Mount, NC in 1973. He married Wanza (Williams) Avery on Dec. 28, 1973 in Everett, WA. After high school he served in the US Army until 1975. He started his career as a cook at many quality restaurants in the Atlantic City area serving under some of the best chefs for 17 yrs. He also served as a firefighter with the Atlantic City Fire Dept. from 1979 - 1986. After moving to WA in 1990 he became a cook in Alaska for some fishing vessels becoming chief steward. Those companies included the Yard Arm Knot, Deep Pacific Fishing Co., Seafreeze Alaska, AKC Corp., Coastal Transportation, Ocean Peace LLC, Pacific Longline and finally Arctic Catering. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. Avery is survived by his wife, Wanza of Everett, WA; his mother Verna Avery of Nashville, NC; his father Warren Avery of NYC; his son Desi R. Avery, Jr. of Everett; his daughters Makinyula "Nikki" Avery of Bremerton, WA, Sybil "Sybs" Avery of Bremerton, Rachelle "Sissy" Avery of Everett, Cheyenne Avery of Everett; his brothers Twinnam (Joan) Johnson of Egg Harbor, NJ, Bernard Johnson of Rocky Mt., NC, Alvin Johnson of Nashville, NC; his sisters Beryl Avery-Cox of Durham, NC, Vicki Johnson of Rocky Mt., NC; six grandchildren Trevino "Trey" McCormack, Anthony Avery, Deja Avery, Indya Avery, Miles Taylor, Talor Avery; grand nephew Xavier Avery; Chad McCormack who will become his son-in-law on July 23, 2006; and several other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Desi was preceded in death by his son Daniel "Danny Boy" Avery; his brother Warren "Butch" Avery, Jr.; nephews Tony and Stacey Avery.
