Catherine Florence Hill Anderson Obituary (1901

Catherine Florence Hill Anderson, age 102, died on May 7, 2004 at Island Health and Rehabilitation, Bainbridge Island, WA. Florence was born to Ida Mae and Walter A. Hill on July 30, 1901 in Fond du Lac, WI. She was the second of four children. The Hill family moved to Enderlin, ND in 1905 and began farming. Florence spent her childhood and received her schooling in Enderlin, ND. She met Arthur Russell Anderson there and they were married on December 6, 1923 in Moorhead, MN. Florence and Russell tired of farming and moved to Spring Valley, WI in 1926 where they became storekeepers in a variety store. In 1931, they went back to Enderlin and opened their own store. The Depression years brought them to Bremerton, WA where Russell became a welder at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Russell retired from the shipyard in the early '70's. Florence was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Reliance Chapter No. 70, Bremerton, WA. She attended the Methodist Church on Perry Ave., Bremerton. After Russell's death in 1982, Florence moved into retirement accomodations, for 12 years she lived at Claremont East on independent status. After residing around Bremerton for 56 years, Florence required assisted care and was moved to Island Health and Rehabilitation in 1996. Florence was predeceased by two sisters Doris Fretland and Gladys Bohm and her brother James L. Hill. She is survived by nieces Myrna Hill Johnson of Bainbridge Island, WA, Barbara Hill Stanley of Rancho Mirage, CA, Sandra Hill of Keyport, WA, Ardis Fretland Brown of Roseburg, OR and Lois Fretland Newby of Orange CA; nephew Fredrick Bohm, Jr. of Enderlin, ND; sister-in-law Jessie McCarthy of St. Paul, MN and many grandnieces and nephews. Per her request, Florence indicated she did not want a funeral, preferring a small family gathering at the mausoleaum. Florence will be entombed in the mausoleaum at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton beside her beloved Russell.
