Arthur J. DeCarufel, Jr. Obituary (1922

Arthur J. DeCarufel, Jr. of Poulsbo died April 19, 2006 from complications of a stroke. He was born December 11, 1922 in No. Attleboro, Mass to Arthur J. DeCarufel, Sr. and Maria A. (Bergeron). Arthur graduated from No. Attleboro High School. He served in the US Marines during WWII as a Radio gunner in a Grumman Avenger Torpedo Bomber obtaining the rank of Sgt. On May 29, 1945 he married Jean M. MacDougall in San Morino, CA. Arthur worked as a Foreman at Keyport Torpedo Station, WA, as a Space Industry Field Engineer for Aerojet in Azusa, CA and as a stained glass craftsman for Judson Studies in Highland Park, CA. Arthur was a life member of the VFW, who enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, Western movies and gardening. Arthur is survived by his wife Jean of Poulsbo; children James and wife Darein DeCarufel of Kennesaw, GA, Jeanne Stottlemyer and husband Frank of Poulsbo, Bob DeCarufel of Ketchum, Idaho, Steve and wife Shirley DeCarufel of West Seattle, Mike and wife Jessica DeCarufel of Bainbridge Island, Mark DeCarufel of West Seattle; sister Rita and husband Frank Fitzpatrick of North Dighton, Mass; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. No local services will be held. Burial will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. Art enjoyed a long career and special interest in the aerospace industry and flight. He kept a detailed flight log starting with WWII whether fixed wing, helicopter, glider, or hot air balloon. A portion of his cremated remains will be launched into space this fall from Vandenberg Air Force Base. This will be a Memorial Space Flight sponsored by Space Services, Inc.
