Thurman Harold Fletcher Obituary (1920

Thurman passed away after a long fulfilling life. "Thurm" or "Fletch" as he was known was born on flag day in 1920, in Doty, WA. After graduating from Woodland high school he worked in the "woods" as he called it as a lumberjack. He went on to serve in the Navy Seabee construction forces, where he helped build the airstrip in Tinian, where the US Army Air Force B-29 bomber took off to drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. He worked at PSNS in shop 02 as a crane operator for 30yrs and retired at 55. His passion in life was Steelhead fishing in the rivers of southwest WA, with trips every summer to Montana to fly fish. Thurm built his fishing poles from scratch, and was quite an artist at it. Fletch also enjoyed cars (he owned over 40) and vegetable gardening. He is survived by his wife of 64 yrs Dorothy Fletcher of Poulsbo, son Alan Fletcher of Mckinleyville CA, son Randy Fletcher of Bremerton, and daughter Cindy Haberly of Poulsbo, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held June 11, 2016 at 3pm at Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary 22272 Foss Rd., Poulsbo, WA. All are Welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kitsap Humane Society under his name.
