Janice May Nelson Obituary (1919

Janice (Campbell) Nelson was born in Seattle, WA on March 4, 1919 and went home to be with the Lord on November 28, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, on October 13, 1973 and her daughter, Susan, on March 1, 2006. Janice spent her childhood in Kingston and moved to Nelson Place in Poulsbo after she married Leslie in a garden wedding at the Port Gamble Hotel on June 11, 1939. She began her career at the 1st National Bank of Poulsbo and then later worked very enjoyably for 20 years as the Secretary to the Principal at North Kitsap High School, her alma mater. Janice was a member of the Nesika Garden Club, P.E.O. Chapter GI, the Slick Chicks, and was a long-time active member of the Poulsbo First Lutheran Church where she both taught Sunday school and was a member of the Deborah Circle. Janice loved gardening and flower arranging, and as a result, her home and church were often blessed by her beautiful floral arrangements. She is survived by her beloved children and their spouses; Gregg (Judy) of Kenmore, WA, Scott (Diana) of Boise, ID, and Marcia (Robert) Permut of St. Joseph, MO, her son-in-law, Ted Messett of Bellevue, WA, as well as by her devoted niece, Charlotte (Tony) Monagas of Seattle. Her 8 grandchildren will lovingly miss their Gram and her 8 great-grandchildren will always fondly remember their GG. Janice will also be missed by numerous local friends, young and old alike, who she loved and treasured like family. Janice will want to be remembered for her steadfast faith and her love of family and friends. She felt incredibly blessed by the joyful and rich life she lived. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Melba Vinson for her loving care during Mom's final months. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 8th at 11a.m. at Poulsbo First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Lutheran's Flower Fund or Youth Group, Hospice of Kitsap County, or a charity of your choice. As a gift to her children, Janice planned her memorial service to include her favorite scriptures and hymns. A luncheon reception will be held at the First Lutheran Christian Center following the service.
