Hyle L. Potts Obituary (1920

Hyle L. Potts of Bremerton, Washington passed away from cancer at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton on July 15, 2004. He was 83 years of age. He was born on December 9, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa to Leland and Manda (Miller) Potts. He graduated from Bend High School in Bend, Oregon. He married Helen B. Keller on July 19, 1941 in Bend. She survives him in Bremerton. He served in the United States Army from 1940 to 1947, where he achieved the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart. He served with the 41st Infantry Division in World War II and saw combat in the South Pacific. He worked at Mt. Rainier Ordinance Depot at Fort Lewis, Washington until transferring to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton in 1953, where he worked as a ship fitter in shop 11 until his medical disability retirement in 1976. He was a member of VFW Post 2669 of Port Orchard, Washington, the 41st Infantry Division Association of Seattle, Washington, Narf #181 of Bremerton and the Roadrunner Gem and Mineral Club of Quartzsite, Arizona. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sandra Otts and Susan Gehring and her husband, Lonnie, all of Port Orchard; a brother, Richard Potts and his wife, Charlotte, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister, Sharon Zydzik and her husband, Harold, of Virginia Beach; 7 grandchildren, Teri Scott of Port Orchard, Gary Otts of Eagle River, Alaska, Jimmy Otts of Spokane, Washington, Robbie Otts of Port Orchard, Roger Gehring of Gig Harbor, Washington, Rhonda Gehring of Whidbey Island, Washington and Renee Gehring of Port Orchard. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 5:00 PM at the Christian Life Center in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
