Harlis Gene Portrey Obituary (1934

Harlis G. Portrey, age 72, of Bremerton died March 24, 2007 at Harrison Medical Center. He was born in Lamar, Colorado on October 8, 1934. Harlis attended Vale Union High School graduating with the class of 1953. Harlis later graduated from Olympic College and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Washington. Harlis served in the US Navy as a Corpsman until his honorable discharge in 1957. On May 10, 1958 he married June M. Branan in Payette, Idaho. He worked for the Kitsap County Department of Health as an Environmental Health Specialist for 27 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed all sports, NASCAR and spending time with his 7 beloved grandchildren. Harlis was preceded in death by his toddler daughter Katherine Marie Portrey in January of 1961. He is survived by his loving wife June; sons Patrick Branan Portrey of Seattle, WA, Jerry Alan Portrey of Silverdale, WA, David Gene Portrey of Bremerton; daughters Karen Ann Soule of Reno, NV, Mary Kay Portrey of Las Vegas, NV, Janie Marie Abbett of Brogan, OR; aunts Pat Jernigan of Albany, OR, Phyllis Garrett of Red Cliff, Albany, Canada; cousin Wanda Robinson of Ellensburg, WA and 7 beloved grandchildren. A memorial service will take place in Payette, Idaho. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Payette, Idaho.
