Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hancock Obituary (1993

Elizabeth Renee Hancock, 22, passed away on May 4, 2015 at her home in Poulsbo, Washington. A funeral service was held on Saturday May 9th at The Stone Chapel in Poulsbo, Washington. Born to Aimee C. Hancock (Sawyer) & Steven C. Hancock on January 10, 1993 in Torrance, California. She was the older sister to Amanda J. Hancock and Mollee R. Hancock. Granddaughter to David & Diane Sawyer of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Charles Hancock of Blue Springs, Missouri. Niece to Devin & Cindy Sawyer, Adrian & Sepi Sawyer, Tamara & Doug Beyer, Kent & Gina Hancock, David & Cindy Hancock. Her large extended family also included many cousins and second cousins. Lizzy moved from Torrance, California at the early age of 4 months and spent her entire life growing up in the Kitsap County area, specifically the majority of that time in Poulsbo. After graduating from the Special Education program at the North Kitsap High in 2011, she became an active volunteer in her community, volunteering at organizations such as KCMT Children's Theater, Liberty Shores Retirement Center, Martha & Mary Convalescent Center, Central Market, and Alder Creek Pet Lodge. Swimming on the Special Olympics swim team was also incredibly important to her, winning more metals than I can count, she took such great pride in her ability to be able to swim. Even though Lizzy struggled most of her life with varying medical conditions, namely Neurofibromatosis and developmental disabilities, she never let her limitations hold her back. Her desire and her spirit to help others cannot be measured, she made such a huge impact in so many lives leaving a piece of her spirit with everyone she came in to contact with. She ultimately lost her battle to an aggressive form of Sarcoma, MPNST, passing away at home in her mother's arms and her grandmother by her side.
