Dr. James Douglas Roberts Obituary (1938

Dr. James "Jim" Douglas Roberts of Poulsbo, WA passed away on March 31, 2005. He was 66 years of age. Jim was born to O. Douglas and Katherine D. (Wester) Roberts on July 25, 1938 in Pittsburg, Kansas. He graduated from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas in 1956 and graduated from Kansas State University in 1960 and the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1964. On December 18, 1989 Jim married Maureen B. Robards in Westminster, London, UK. Jim was a retired US Navy Captain of Medical Corps and served from 1964-1995. During this time Jim received the Navy Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, and a Navy Commendation Medal. He worked as a Surgeon in the Medical Corps of the US Navy with some of his duty stations being the USS Nimitz, Rota Spain, Sicily, Camp Pendleton, and Camp Lajune. Jim retired after 31 years. Jim enjoyed music, fly fishing, fly tying, hunting, history, reading, political science, travel, photography, and cooking. He had a passion for watching the stock market. He enjoyed computers. Jim achieved the status of Eagle Scout in his younger days. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. Jim was Roman Catholic. Jim is survived by his wife Maureen of Poulsbo, WA; sons, Scott A. Roberts (Amy) of Kent, WA, Patrick O. Roberts (Keri) of Bremerton, WA; daughter, Elizabeth A. Roberts (Brian) of Bremerton, WA; sister D. Ann Roberts-Gish of Round Rock, TX; father, O. Douglas Roberts of Round Rock, TX; 6 grandchildren, Connor, Zoe, Adia, Katrina, Sydney, and Katherine. James' mother prececed him in death. A memorial mass will be held at Jackson Park Navy Chapel in Bremerton, Wa on April 11th at 7:00pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: 875 N.
