Dorothy Irene Fick McCotter Fryar Obituary (1927

Dorothy Irene Fick McCotter Fryar, passed away in Bremerton, Wash., on October 13, 2016, at the age of 89. Dorothy, the daughter of Kenneth P. and Grace I. (Hawkins) Fick, was born and raised in Bremerton. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1945, and received an associate of arts degree from Olympic College in 1947. She shared the challenges of the World War II years with many friends, whom she continued to connect with throughout her life and, most recently, at her 71st high school reunion. After college, Dorothy worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Seattle and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She was a deeply dedicated and social fixture of the Bremerton community: early member of the Bremerton Ski Cruisers, and life member of the Bremerton Yacht Club "Skipperettes", cruising with her family on the "Sea Spray," a 30-foot Owens in the 1950s-60s. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Bremerton Reliance Chapter). Dorothy was a booster and mentor to many. She touched lives deeply with her encouragement and advice, as well as round-the-world letter writing and correspondence, and sharing current events through thoughtful newspaper clippings and photos. She was a gift giver, often surprising friends, family, hungry students, and soldiers with batches of cookies and boxes of chocolates. Dorothy embraced life fully and was loved by many. She was a force in the lives of all who had the good fortune to know her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph McCotter and Al Fryar, and her two brothers, Ken Fick and Lee Fick. She is survived by her son, Ralph McCotter and his wife Susan, and daughter, Patricia McCotter and her husband Gary Trantham. Her four grandchildren were the loves of her life: Sean McCotter, Carolyn McCotter, David Trantham, and Maureen Trantham and her husband Brian Turner. Memorial services will be held at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton on Saturday, October 29, at 12 noon, with interment at Ivy Green Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ruth Meyer Epstein (RME) Nursing Scholarship Fund, Harrison Medical Center Foundation, 2520 Cherry Ave, Bremerton, WA 98310.
