Darlene Carol Yocum Obituary (1941

Darlene was born April 20, 1941, the third child of Ed and Alvina (Lunden) Gordon, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. The family of five - including twins Vern and LaVonne - moved to Bremerton in 1945. Gary was born the next year. Darlene, also known as Dottie, attended Bremerton schools, was confirmed at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, and graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1959. During those years, the Gordons lived at 1212 Veneta, between the church and school. She was employed by Boeing and Honeywell during her professional career and graduated from National University in 1988 with a BA in business. Darlene and Bill were married in 1982 on Bainbridge Island and began a life together that embraced international travel. Trips included skiing in France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland along with journeys across all the world's oceans and continents (except Antarctica). One of Darlene's favorite trips was walking 59 miles on the Camino De Santiago in September 2007. This walk followed the route pilgrims from all over the world took across Spain, ending in Santiago where the remains of the Apostle Saint James are believed to rest. Another notable trip was to the Holy Land in 2017 led by Pastor Bill Crabtree. The theme was "Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus." The fellowship and spiritual experience was beyond description. Every summer, they spent a precious week at Cannon Beach, Oregon, with Darlene's siblings and all their kids and grandkids - a tradition that started in the 1980s and still continues. After retirement, they made Kitsap their home base and spent winters at their beautiful home in Oracle, Arizona. Darlene passed away at home in Silverdale. She was 82. She is survived by Bill; son Ken Aduddell (Stephanie); stepdaughter Kimberly Keaton (Calvin); grandchildren Lillian Aduddell, Brian Messing and Lauren Messing; siblings-in-law Lawrence Greaves, Dorothy Gordon and Jerry Armstrong, Tami and Mike Malane, and Geraldine and Dennis Johnson; bonus sister Ginny Martin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and too many friends to count. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton, Washington near her parents and siblings. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. March 2, 2024, at Silverdale Lutheran Church.
