Audrey Vaarvik Obituary (1926

Audrey Vaarvik, devoted and loving wife, mom and grandma passed peacefully at home January 21, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's with her adoring husband and daughter by her side. Audrey was born October 18, 1926 in Minam, Oregon to Edith and Henry Reed. She graduated from Asotin High School in 1945. She married Jimmie Whiton July 5, 1946. They were married 35 years and raised two daughters in Bremerton, WA. He passed in 1981. Eighteen years later she met and married Odd Vaarvik on November 17, 1999. She was truly blessed to have two great men in her life. Odd was a very special husband who gave his utmost care to his wife to the very end of her journey. Audrey was a active member of Manette Community Church and served as the wedding coordinator for 30 years. She was a proud Lady Elk and was one of the top bowlers in Kitsap County for many years. She loved fishing, razor clamming, gardening and traveling around the world. She was nearly impossible to beat at pinochle. Audrey worked at the Bremerton Sun for eight years, leaving in 1989 to be a full time grandma. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Diane, sister Jo, brothers James, Floyd, Orville, Fred, Leonard. Audrey is survived by her loving husband of seventeen years, Odd Vaarvik of Chewelah, WA, daughter and husband, Shelly and David Bratlien of Poulsbo, WA, brother and wife Raymond and Joan Reed of Billings MT, grandchildren Alicia and husband Evan Staley of Spokane, WA Erika Bratlien of Poulsbo, WA Brian Bratlien of Poulsbo WA and Jim Stephens and wife LeeAnn of Sammamish, WA, great grandchildren Etta Bea Staley and Corey Stephens along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to the numerous caregivers who worked with compassion and love over the years. A memorial service was be held at 1:00pm, Thursday January 28th at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 5303 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA, 98312 In lieu flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
